Sweden's Erik Stark showed the South African drivers the way around Hazelmere Dam outside Durban earlier today when he grabbed Pole position for tomorrow's Lotto F1 Powerboat Grand Prix. Stark's time of 43.64 seconds was 1.2 seconds quicker than second placed Robert Shepard. Paul Shepard, who already has the South African title in the bag, was third quickest although engine problems limited his speed.
Elzane de Jager, currently in second place in the championship, will start the first heat tomorrow in fourth place alongside Terri Mitchell. Brett Stuart destroyed a bearing in his motor during the first practice session this morning and was unable to set a time in qualifying. He will start in sixth ahead of Darren Beattie and Steven Zungu who were also kept on the bank by technical problems. The first of tomorrow's three heats gets underway at Hazelmere Dam at 11h30.
